Googling

I love that google has become a verb.

I'll be googling far into the night, searching for folklore and myth concerned with people who have mismatched eyes.

It's a long story. Actually, it really will be a long story, but it's not quite clarified itself in my hindbrain, yet.

Any thoughts, knowledge, niggling feelings?

David Gemmell's Rigante series has this element.

The Rigante are a hardy highland people who are led by heroes with two different eye colors, one tawny, one blue. It's not the main theme but it keeps showing up. (Usually to identify bastard children of heroes past.)

My dearest friend in high school had a daughter with the most amazing eyes. One was a gold/hazel and the other shockingly bright blue.

In the book "The Red Tent" the fictionalized Biblical woman Dinah has mismatched eye color. (just finished re-reading that the other day)There are some mentions in that book of the superstitions about that. Seeing that it was a pretty well researched book, those could be acutal superstitions rather than ficiton.

I would be *very* interested in seeing where this goes with you!

Ah, terrific! I'd forgotten about the Gemmell books, but I'll revisit them. Dawno, I loved The Red Tent - that's the sort of connection to mythology and folklore I'm thinking of, though.

Something's niggling my brain, but it's just vague shadow hiding in the fog. I'll let you know if it takes on any type of form.

I think David Bowie looks creepy.

A very good friend has mismatched eyes. It appears that there are all sorts of good luck/bad luck, magic, otherworld traditions linked to them. Try the Ozark folklife place - that's the sort of instituion that ought to be collecting folk beliefs of this sort (whether they do, or whether they stick to music depends entirely on the ethnography actually practised there).

FYI, the new Bond James Bond movie has a villain with mismatched eyes. Of course, the scar across his face suggests that mythology and prophecy had nothing to do with it.

It works for Australian Shepherds. (that's a helpful comment, eh?)

My wife's Aunt has a pair of Siberian Huskies, each with one brown and one blue eye, and that's about the extent of my knowledge on this subject

And you've been Tagged, :-]

You have to share 5 little-known facts about yourself, and Tag 5 other Bloggers to do the same. Blame Dawno, she started it, lol.
